What has caused ACE to suspend in-class instruction?
On March 23rd Governor Northam announced that all Virginia K-12 schools will be closed for the remainder of the academic year. The governor’s announcement also means that all extracurricular programs, athletic programs, and community activities are canceled through the remainder of the academic year. The school buildings may be closed, but learning is not canceled. All schools will continue or begin various forms of homebound learning by order of Governor Northam and the Virginia Department of Education.
Will ACE continue to provide academic instruction through virtual means?
Yes. Unlike most school districts, ACE never had a break in learning. We have already instituted a homebound learning program for the remainder of the school year. While this situation is not ideal, we are thankful to be able to offer small group learning opportunities, targeted at individualized learning for each student. Furthermore, ACE students who participate in this program and fulfill all their academic requirements will achieve completion of their current grade level and be well prepared to progress to the next grade.
Will ACE provide a prorated tuition refund for the remainder of the academic year?
ACE will continue to provide academic services via homebound learning. Students are provided the opportunity to complete their curriculum via this format and achieve the requirements for graduating from their current grade. Your tuition covers these services.
We understand the challenge this poses to parents across the state and country as they make adjustments in their personal and professional lives to accommodate the needs of their children at home. However, for ACE to continue to operate and provide an academic education for our students, the tuition is required for operational and payroll expenses.
Will ACE provide any form of club/aftercare services?
Yes. While ACE is not permitted to provide any in-person services as part of the governor’s order, ACE staff will provide remote aftercare and club services. If you have paid for aftercare and didn’t receive the aftercare meeting instructions please reach out to Mr. Woodward at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Will ACE provide a prorated aftercare or club refund?
Given the unprecedented situation we all find ourselves in because of the school closure caused by Covid-19, ACE’s board has agreed that in accordance with the policy in our Parent Handbook, we will not issue prorated aftercare or club refunds. In addition to offering daily Aftercare Google Meets, we are also extending homework help for younger students enrolled in Aftercare. Clubs are still occurring each week through Google Meets and other technology avenues. Club staff will email club students weekly for instructions.
Will ACE provide a prorated hot food refund?
Since the restaurants are not able to provide ACE a refund, ACE will send the ordered hot food to local first responders at the Reston Fire Station, Reston Hospital and Embry Rucker Shelter as a donation. ACE will send each family a donation receipt for the purchased hot food.
Will ACE be open for Summer Camp?
ACE continues to prepare for the GREATEST summer camp. Our plan is to host Summer Camp as soon as schools are permitted to be open. However, we will continue to monitor this ever changing pandemic and Governor Northam’s mandate to see when that may be.
Homebound Learning….there is not enough work or there is too much work:
We acknowledge that every family’s situation is different (parents working from home, quality of internet, parenting multiple kids, number of technology devices in your home, etc.). ACE also realizes that teachers need an extended amount of time to properly prepare lessons for homebound learning. As parents, do the best you can.
We are committed to offer the best education possible for each student, but acknowledge that each family has a different margin. We trust that any instruction will be of value, but do not want to be a source of stress, but rather a blessing.
If you feel there is not enough work for your student here is a list of self-paced resources:
